“No Shock Energy” is a website hosted by Uniting Communities as part of energy advocacy conducted on behalf of UnitingCare Australia with funding and support coming from Energy Consumers Australia.

UnitingCare Australia provides social and economic policy focus on behalf of about 650 separately incorporated uniting church affiliated community service organisations across Australia.

Uniting Communities is a significant community service provider in South Australia that has provided leadership in energy policy advocacy and service provision associated with affordable energy.

Uniting Communities (as Adelaide Central Mission) became interested in energy policy when the South Australian Government decided to privatise the State electricity provider, Electricity Trust of South Australia. We became particularly concerned about impacts on lower and modest income households when average electricity bills increased by 27% for households in 2004 as full retail contestability (privatisation) was applied. Over more recent years energy bills have been the most commonly raised concern from financial counselling clients, and people seeking assistance to other low income support services.

“No Shock Energy” has an Australia wide reach, and a particular focus on network regulation for utilities, with particular attention to electricity provision.

Uniting Communities is South Australia’s first accredited “Carbon Neutral” organisation and committed to a future supply with no carbon emissions.
