Applying DNA approach to Network Regulation

(DNA refers to Deliberative and Negotiation processes with consumers, seeking Agreement)

Who should attend? – Consumer groups and Stakeholders of energy network businesses, including retailers.

Purpose of the Workshop. – The purpose of the workshop is to improve consumer engagement practice in network regulation in Australia. A “strawman” DNA type approach to network regulation will be examined to determine merits, detriments and implications of engagement approaches.

  1. Can sound consumer engagement, based on negotiation lead to workable agreements between network businesses and their stakeholders / including consumers?
  2. What improvements can be made to the “strawman model?”
  3. What are the potential traps and challenges for consumers?
  4. What are the implications of application of DNA type approaches to consumer engagement by network businesses for the various stakeholders?

Biography:

Peter is a Director and co-founder of Seed Advisory having established it in 2008.  He has over 20 years’ experience including 17 years in the energy sector.  His work focus within the energy industry has included advisory and direct energy retail and wholesale experience in executive management positions at Energy Australia, AGL, Pulse Energy, United Energy and IKON Energy.

Peter’s experience in the energy industry covers risk management, policy and regulatory development, retail marketing, strategy, wholesale trading, analysis and corporate development. He has a strong working relationship with energy retailers, consumer advocates, networks, governments, regulators and generators. He has a detailed understanding of the Australian energy and renewable energy sectors covering the National Electricity Market and the West Australian market. He is the chair of the Customer Consultative Committee of AusNet Services, a former member of ARENA’s R&D grant advisory panel and is also an actuary with strong quantitative and risk management skills.
